How to prepare for Christmas & excel at work.
This is something that I have been dwelling on quite a bit in the last couple of weeks. How do I successfully prepare for Christmas & still deliver at work. Christmas time is meant to be a time to switch off, however, it can be incredibly stressful to prepare for. I find myself asking the same questions; when do I start my shopping? When should I book my flights home? How will I walk away from my emails for an extended period of time. Here are some tips that I have found helpful.
Christmas Shopping
Don’t overcomplicate this process. The other day, I went into Oxford Circus to start Christmas shopping & to say every single fitting room, store, cash queue was through the roof, I mean it. I thought that physically being in a store would make me feel productive but it actually did the opposite. If you are working a full time job, particularly from home, see how many gifts you can purchase online & have delivered to your door. Another approach I found helpful is making a list, figuring out who I am buying for & what is a realistic budget. Don’t forget, Christmas is about a lot more than just the gifts that we buy and it’s important not to over extend yourself and to purchase sensibly.
2. Communicating
I rang a member of my family the other day & said how concerned I was about the fact that I hadn’t prepared for Christmas. She then reassured me that Christmas is about us all being together & not about exchanging material items. This goes for planning & budgets. With Inflation being sky high, not everyone is going to be able to afford gifts that they could have in previous years. Give yourself the grace to communicate that with people & if people come to you with those concerns, be as supportive as possible.
3. Take care of yourself
Christmas is about having fun with your family but it’s also about resting. Make sure when you cross that finish line & sign off work for Christmas, that you have made sure you’re happy & healthy. Eat well, get as much sleep as you can & stay hydrated. We understand that the Christmas rush can be super busy for Clients & Colleagues , we want to remind everyone to take care of their mind & body this holiday season.
