Prioritising your 5-9 is just as important as prioritising your 9-5.

We have definitely entered the era of romanticising and documenting your 9-5 job. We are seeing it all over social media – day in the life working in corporate London, day in the life of a marketing girly, day in the life as a trainee solicitor. We are loving the insights we are getting into these industries and career paths, and we love that people are documenting this more and more. At TASK, we are firm believers that you should be able to grow your personal brand and socials, alongside your 9-5.

Another TikTok trend that is growing in popularity is documenting your 5-9 either before or after your 9-5 work day. This growing trend is showing people that your 5-9 is just as important as your 9-5, and we couldn’t agree more.

It is so easy to focus entirely on work and to take it home with you. Our jobs can often take up a huge amount of brain space, leaving very little room for anything else in our day. I’ve had many days where I’ve come home from work, spoke to my family about work for an hour, thought about or researched content ideas for work and spent my entire evening with it on my mind. Since starting with TASK a few weeks ago, I’ve made a conscious effort to avoid this habit. The TASK Team really encourages switching off and doing things that are both good for you and that you enjoy when you finish your work day.

Here are 5 things you can do to switch off from work and truly enjoy your 5-9:

Attend a workout class

One of my favourite things about going to classes is that someone else is telling you what to do. It allows you to be completely present and focus on the movement. I always find it makes it so much easier to completely switch off and enjoy the exercise.

The TASK girls attended a reformer pilates class a few months ago in Flex in the City - see how they got on here.

Meet a friend for a coffee

Simple but effective. Meeting a friend after work for a coffee, dinner or even a few drinks really takes your mind off work. Here are some places we’d recommend in Cork:

Coffee - The Bookshelf, Three Fools Coffee, Soma Coffee Company

Dinner - Moody Cafe Vin, The River Club, The Spitjack

Drinks - NV Cork, The Raven, Cask

Create a self-care routine

Creating a self-care routine is a great way to wind down. Although it's less talked about, a good evening routine can be just as important when it comes to maintaining and improving health, happiness, and productivity.

Some self-care products we recommend:

OUAI Detox Shampoo | Elemis Cleansing Balm | Caudalie Vinergetic C Mask | Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask | The Head Plan Gratitude Journal

Go for a walk

Getting outside and getting some fresh air is the best way to clear your head and switch off after a long day of work. We are lucky in Cork in that we have so many walks, parks and nearby beaches to choose from.

Grab a friend, grab your dog or throw on a good podcast and get outside for a walk.

Spend some time making dinner

A lot of the time, when we come in from work we want something quick and easy to make. Which after a long day is absolutely the way to go. However, sometimes spending some time preparing and cooking your dinner can be therapeutic and a great way to switch off after work.
