Balancing baby & business

Exactly one year ago I became a mom. My little boy has just turned one & it’s hard to believe we have already had our first year together. I had always hoped to have a family & also hoped to have my own business, but I never thought too much about how these would coexist. I just assumed that I would make it work. Trying to balance running a growing business alongside being a parent has been a very difficult but rewarding challenge. In building any type of career you will face testing moments & being a new parent is just that.

For quite a while now I have been aware of how the world of work is a challenge for parents & in particular mothers. Not being able to work overtime because you have to collect your children from school can mean not being considered for promotion due to ‘lack of going the extra mile’. Businesses not adapting to flexible working hours is causing them to miss out on talented employees joining their teams & making it unnecessarily awkward in some cases for parents to get to work at certain times. Going back to work after welcoming a baby is an emotional time & needs to be approached with more care. The list could go on.

Mothers have incredible talents that they can bring to their work & we shouldn’t have to chose between our work & our family. Throughout my career I have been inspired by & learned from wonderful mothers. Many of the businesses that I work with today are lead by mothers.

Everybody's path to motherhood is different & for some it can be a really difficult journey. We need to be more open minded & understanding to that within the workplace. TASK is designed to work with businesses in a flexible way but also to accommodate employees within it to build their careers & personal lives at the same time. For anyone who works with us, as a client or employee, their family will always come first.

I hope that if you are celebrating today you have had a wonderful day.
